Picture books may look like an easy write, but they can be more complicated than writing a 50,000-word novel. Before you venture into writing a picture book, discover the necessary points to keep in mind while planning and writing your story.


Writing for Young Audiences will guide you into the world of writing and illustration for books designed to entertain readers from 5-9 years of age. Beginning with character, consider audience, plot and style techniques before turning your old story into an age appropriate story book for the young. Learn how to use research, imagination and style to produce a quality story book for your idea.

PG Shriver, Children's & YA Author



P. G. Shriver was born in California, raised in Minnesota and currently lives on a small Foundation Quarter Horse farm in Texas.


Shriver has been writing since the age of seven when she entered and won a poetry contest sponsored by a local newspaper. She has written 13 books for children and young adults, including her Texas Festivals picture book series. Shriver has a master's degree in Education from the University of Texas at Arlington and currently teaches composition and literature at Texas State Technical College Waco. Shriver also spent eight of her 19 years in education teaching fourth through eighth grade language arts at two Texas public schools. Writing has always been her greatest passion. Shriver loves to travel, meet new people, discuss books, and allow the world to spark her imagination.
